Shady Hill's spring fundraiser took place on Saturday, April 28, when more than 350 members of the community joined in fun activities to support the school's financial aid fund.
Every two years, Shady Hill's Parent Community Events team organizes a spring fundraiser to support the school's financial aid fund. This year's Casino Royale event had something for everyone: delicious food, exotic beverages, an amazing array of silent and live auction items, dancing and other entertainment.
As guests arrived, they were given bidder numbers and auction rules, and invited to have their photographs taken by professional photographer Porter Gifford. On entering the Blue Gym, guests were able to view and bid on dozens of silent auction items and packages. In addition to the auction, the evening's casino gaming included blackjack, roulette, and a money wheel. Each person's winnings were converted to raffle tickets that were put into a drawing at the end of the evening—with the prizes being a new iPad, Bose wireless speakers, and a bottle of Opus One wine.
A number of the silent auction items were one-of-a-kind: artwork created by classes, special grade-related baskets, and teacher and parent donations of time and talents.
When the silent auction closed, Head of School Mark Stanek welcomed everyone, thanked the wonderful event organizers and volunteers, and introduced the live auction's host, Sir Jeremy Bell. The live auction included eight incredible opportunities: tickets to The Colbert Report and a stay at the W Hotel; a sailing adventure; a party at the Boston Public Library with storyteller Willy Claflin; a custom tree house, designed and built by Shady Hill parents; a "Girls' Night Out" party; a weekend at a luxury New Hampshire home; and two fabulous golf opportunities.
When the live auction concluded, guests were invited to join in another wonderful opportunity to support financial aid: a chance for people to use their cell phones to text in donations for the school. This activity raised nearly $10,000 for financial aid in just a few minutes. The evening concluded with late night snacks and dancing.
Many thanks to the Casino Royale organizers and volunteers, and to everyone who came to bid, to party, and to raise money for the school!
