Shady Hill's Teaching Training Course (TTC) hosted over 60 teaching apprentices and administrators who run teacher training programs. Through an informational panel and workshop sessions, the administrators gave apprentices advice on how to navigate their first teaching job search.
The morning workshops included panelist presentations (including four TTC alumni), a full-group Q&A moderated by Mark Stanek and Allison Webster, small group discussions about resumes and cover letters, and mock interviews.
The nine panelists for the event were:
Matt Eskin, Assistant Head, The Philadelphia School
Angela Garcia, Assistant Head, Fessenden School
Carla Haith TTC '02, Lower School Head, Dedham Country Day School
David Krane TTC '97, McCarthy-Towne School Principal, Acton-Boxborough RSD
Gil Lawrence, Human Resources Assistant Director, Newton Public Schools
Andrea Myers TTC '95, Director of Admissions, Miquon School
Christine Price TTC '85, Country School Principal, Weston Public Schools
Ingrid Tucker, Head, Cambridge Montessori School
Amy Vorenberg, Head, Beauvoir School
Attendees included apprentices from Fessenden School, BB&N Lower School, Belmont Day, Berwick Academy, Brookwood, and Brookline, along with Shady Hill's 16 TTC apprentices.
The day's events provided apprentices with important insights on what to expect and how best to prepare for their futures in the teaching field while also demonstrating that TTC alums become educational leaders beyond their time at Shady Hill.
That same afternoon, a delegation of teacher-trainers from Qatar's Ministry of Education met with Desiree Ivey and the TTC staff. They were particularly interested in learning more about America's teacher-training institutions and the effectiveness of workshops, seminars, and supervised teacher as they begin to develop their own Teacher Training Institute in Qatar.
