More than 100 Shady Hill students walk, ride, scooter, and take the T to School each day.
Walking & BikingThe Greenways Coordinator (greenways@shs.org) is available to facilitate walk-pools and bike-pools. For those who cross Mt. Auburn Street on the way to School, the recommended route is to cross Mt. Auburn Street at either Greenough Blvd. (in front of BB&N), or at Coolidge Ave. The Mt. Auburn Street/Fresh Pond Parkway intersection is
not recommended for any walker or biker at any time.
MBTAApproximately 40 of our students ride MBTA buses from Cambridge, Somerville, and Watertown. A list of other SHS MBTA riders is available for forming MBTA bus-pools, or to coordinate rides in other ways.
Shady Hill makes T passes available to students at no charge. Contact the Business Office (617-520-5217) to register for your child's pass.
The most direct routes to campus are the #73 and #71 bus:
http://mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/bus/routes/?route=71http://mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/bus/routes/?route=73From the Harvard stop on the MBTA Red Line, take a bus for Waverly (#73 bus) or Watertown (#71 Bus) from the underground station at Harvard. Get off at Coolidge Avenue, cross Mt. Auburn Street, and walk up Coolidge Avenue to the second left, Coolidge Hill. Turn left, keep right at the next fork, and walk down to the school.
From Waverly or Watertown, take a Mt. Auburn bus toward Harvard Square. Get off at Coolidge Avenue, at the corner of the Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Walk up Coolidge Avenue to Coolidge Hill and down to the school as above.
Winter/Foul Weather AlternativesA number of Cambridge-walking or MBTA-riding families have created foul weather carpools. Talk with your Neighborhood Coordinator, or simply organize one yourself by creating a list of names to call when bad weather is expected. Take turns driving this “foul weather” carpool. Or, simply offer a ride to area walkers when you know you might drive.
