Social Justice and Equity Through the Arts

The 2012 Association of Independent Schools of New England (AISNE) Middle School Diversity Conference was held at Shady Hill on Saturday, March 31.
Nearly 250 students from local independent schools spent Saturday, March 31, exploring social justice through the arts at the 2012 AISNE Middle School Diversity Conference at Shady Hill. The day began with a performance by musicians from New Orleans Habitat Musicians’ Village. (Visit their website at: http://www.nolamusiciansvillage.org.) The musicians energized students and adults with some amazing New Orleans jazz. Students were on their feet dancing to the music before heading off to the morning's workshops

The workshops, led by artists and performers, focused on a variety of social issues, including bullying, racism, stereotyping, and hunger and looked at how art can be used to address injustice.

Our thanks to AISNE, to the workshop leaders, and to all of the schools and students who participated in this wonderful day.
