Happy Lunar New Year!

In lieu of our annual Dumpling Party, grade VII and VIII students in Ms. Fromme’s Mandarin class helped to reimagine the community celebration of the Lunar New Year! This week's celebration marked the end of the Year of the Ox and the start of the Year of the Tiger.
Mandarin language students began making Hongbaos or Red Envelopes, which contain special candies and bookmarks that will be distributed to all students next week. Each bookmark depicts a new year wish written in Chinese calligraphy on rice paper. A huge red poster of their ink work is also on display in the Gym Loop for all to see. Festive decorations were also delivered to each gradehead classroom this week for students to decorate their space. Check out more photos here

Grade V performed songs and dances in celebration of Lunar New Year with Mr. Goulet. They played instruments like xylophones, gongs, and drums. They also learned the history behind songs like Gong Xi Gong Xi. Check out the performance videos here

Later this month, a lion dance team will perform a traditional Lion Dance on the turf for our students in honor of the Lunar New Year.
