Great Way to Start the Day--Community Time Combines STEAM, Movement, & Fun

Friday morning, the Physical Education Department held an exciting, whole-school Community Time. Students convened in partner groups, and we ran them through an array of activities that integrated STEAM, Physical Education, and Movement.
As classes arrived in the gym, students were greeted with a series of questions on the big screen, asking about Movement and STEAM fun-facts on topics like:
  • Ways one can use technology to get fit.
  • The number of bones in the body.
  • Art that was once an Olympic sport.
  • Ways exercise can make you smarter.

Other activities included dancing, partner high-five jumps, and a dynamic, full-gym movement performance that was created and enacted by each class. We brought in math by having students predict their performances for a series of 30-second challenges and then compare the actual results to their predictions. The assembly closed with a school-wide mindfulness meditation.
It was a blast to be all together in the biggest classroom on campus having fun while boosting spirit, mind, and body!!
