Our Traditions

MAY DAY THROUGHOUT THE YEARS

For many years, students in all grades planted flowers around their buildings in anticipation of May Day. Traditional dances have included a sailboat dance, square dancing, Chinese dragon dance, and jitterbug dancing.

1940
The tradition of Beginners wearing bunny suits and hopping on the Green at the start of May Day began.

1946
Parents began to be invited to May Day. In the early years, it was only for students and teachers.

1962
May Day stopped being held on Fridays.

1963
The tradition of Beginners wearing bunny suits and hopping on the Green ended.

1995 & 2005
The school revived the tradition of planting flowers around their buildings on the occasion of Shady Hill's 80th and 90th birthday in 1995 and 2005.

    CLASS PHOTOS

Every year the graduating students take a class photo and we've collected as many of them as we could find in this album! If you have a photo of a class that we are missing — or if you believe we have misidentified a class, please share it with us by emailing the Communications Office.
