Open House events, while not required, are opportunities to learn about us. This is a chance to meet our Head of School and Division Heads, along with Shady Hill faculty, parents, and students. See what it's like to be a Shady Hill student and experience our distinctive way of teaching. No RSVP is necessary — we hope you'll join us!

Prospective Parent Visit

This is a required* piece of the admission process and is scheduled individually. We see parents on most school days from mid-October through January.  We highly suggest scheduling early in the season, as appointments fill up quickly.  Please click here to see our Tour Schedule. The first appointments are after Columbus Day, and we begin scheduling appointments after the Labor Day holiday. Each prospective parent visit includes the following three components:

  • Group Tour: Four families at a time tour the campus with a parent guide. In one hour, you will visit classrooms, arts & athletic facilities, and our library.

  • Group Information Session: Meet our Admission Director, learn about our approach to curriculum, the application process, and financial aid.

  • Parent Interview: You will have an individual meeting with one of our Admission Counselors. This is your chance to tell us about your child and to ask any specific questions about our program.
These visits can begin at 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM and generally last about two and a half hours. We ask that all parents involved attend together unless there are extenuating circumstances.

*For siblings of current students and families who are re-applying, the tour and information session are optional. In most cases, parents will opt to schedule an interview-only appointment (which does need to follow the tour schedule listed above). Please call Katrina Morris at (617) 520-5200 to schedule an interview-only appointment.
The School admits qualified students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, religion, disability, gender identity or sexual orientation to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the School. The School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, religion, disability, gender identity or sexual orientation, or any other status protected by applicable law in the administration of its educational, admissions, financial aid, athletic and other policies and programs.

Student Visit & Assessment

This is a required piece of the admission process.
  • Applicants to our Beginner & Kindergarten program will join us for small playgroups, which are offered on most Saturdays and one Friday in January.  When your application is submitted, we will contact you with a scheduled playgroup date.
  • Applicants to Grades 1 and higher will be invited to our Admissions Day (details and schedule sent upon receipt of application). Students will work in small groups, divided by grade. There is a healthy mix of classwork, play time, and campus exploration.

Student Shadow Visit (Optional)

Students applying to Grades 6 or 7 have the option of spending part of a school day with us. These visits are usually scheduled after the parent interview is complete.

For more information about visiting the School, please call the Admission Office at (617) 520-5200.
