Look Inside

SHS Fair 2020

Every Fair is fun, exciting, delicious and a great way to spend a day with the SHS community, and the 2021 Shady Hill Fair will have all of the wonderful things your family loves.

Join us for the amazing Fun House, fabulous games (and prizes!), the always-wonderful Clothesline, scrumptious International Foods, talent galore, the ever-popular used book sale, the tasty Alumni Slush stand, the petting zoo, and much more.

Come join the fun on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM... Rain or Shine!

As many of you know, we ask our 3rd-7th graders to canvas family and friends to buy SHS Fair raffle tickets.  They sell about 3,000 tickets!  (All proceeds benefit SHS programs.)

Kids are excited by great prizes as well as the fun in helping the School. We have many local businesses donate items, and we hope you will help us by asking for special donations (e.g., stays at hotels, parties at Launch or Ninja Warrior, ski passes) or donating tickets to events (e.g., Celtics, Bruins, Symphony, concerts, and gift cards. Donating (as well as buying raffle tickets) is an easy way to participate in this community-wide event!

You can drop off items for the Raffle at the Front Desk or contact the Raffle chair Lidiane Jones.

Admissions tickets, fair bracelets, and raffle tickets are sold by students in Grades III-VII. Classes compete to sell the most tickets – for every 20 tickets sold, you will receive one entry into the Golden Ticket drawing! Tickets can also be purchased at the Fair on Fair Day. (All proceeds support SHS programs.)

Donate Your Stuff!

Clothes & Sporting Goods:  The Fair needs your GENTLY used or new clothes and sporting goods.  We want clothes in good condition in ALL SIZES, infant through adult, for ALL SEASONS, including Five Star Dress and Costumes. If you would BUY it, then DONATE it! Please, NO bathing suits, undergarments, or clothes with rips or stains. Unsold children's clothing will be donated to Cradles to Crayons after the Fair.

** Clothesline collection will begin on Monday, September 23, 2019.

Books: The Used Book Sale is looking for used children and grownup books and audiobooks (please no CDs, DVDs, text books, games or puzzles).  Books left at the end of the sale are donated to SHS classrooms and the library, and to local schools and libraries that have very limited resources for books!

LEGOs: The LEGO Zone is looking for clean LEGO pieces of all kinds, especially base plates, wheels & axles, and, most especially, mini figures. We will be very grateful if LEGO projects are disassembled before you donate them.

The Pocket Lady Needs to Fill Her Pockets!
Do you have leftover birthday party treat bag goodies?  Fun party favors?  Small objects (pencils, erasers) that never get used?  Child-safe promotional items for your company that are taking up space in the storeroom? Turn them into Prizes carried by the Pocket Lady

Clothing, Sporting Goods, Books, Legos and Small Prizes can be dropped off in the bins at the Front Circle or the Arts Loop, between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm (on school days only) starting on Monday, September 23, or send them in with your child on the bus.

Calling all accountants, architects, artists, crafters, athletes, carpenters, dancers, musicians, salespeople, organizers….we need your skills!

The Fair runs on Volunteers!  Volunteers to sort clothing, to bake cakes, to barbeque, to clock contestants, paint faces, take tickets, serve hot dogs, sell cookies …..

Spend time with the Shady Hill Community.  Become an Event Chair or volunteer for one or two hour shifts.

Can’t volunteer the day of the Fair? Here are some things that you can do before Fair Day:
  • Sort clothes or books and get to meet other parents!
  • Bake for the Bake Sale!  We also need 40 cakes or pies for Musical Cakes!
  • Cook for World Foods, and/or help prep the night before the Fair.
  • Other “Night Before” activities: Fill water balloons, Set up the Obstacle Course.

Fun House

The Fun House is an important and exciting traditional feature of our Fair, and an attraction that many Shady Hill kids, parents and guests visit multiple times throughout the day.  Please consider donating a half an hour of your day at the Fair to supervising a station inside the Fun House, helping to keep the experience safe and fun for all.
