Shady Hill's second Director Edward Yeomans penned a detailed account of the School from its founding in 1915 up through 1963 when he retired and Joe Segar began as Shady Hill's third director. Yeomans paints a portrait of Agnes and Ernest Hocking, Katharine Taylor, Mary Eliot, and other educators who contributed to its program and culture and had a significant impact on the School. Bruce Shaw is not only a former Shady Hill Head (1994–2010) but a historian and educational scholar as well. His book, released this past May, picks up where Ed Yeoman’s history of the School left off in 1963. It chronicles the multitude of choices Shady Hill has faced over the past 54 years and how the ensuing decisions and initiatives have enabled the School to remain a vibrant, vital center of learning.
