SHS Celebrates Olympic Games
The weather gods served up a beautiful day for one of Shady Hill's oldest traditions. Beneath a fluttering Greek flag, the shield-bearing, chiton-clad fourth graders processed solemnly in and lined up on the omega, which was inscribed on the Green. …the contestants were off to the various events. The athletes each participated in one of the following events: javelin, discuss, high jump, and long jump. The final event of the afternoon was the foot race across the field. After both an exciting boys' and girls' foot races, the competitors headed back to the Green for the closing ceremony.
Once gathered around the flagpole, the athletes were each presented with a laurel wreath to signify their participation in the games. The winners of the events were also recognized for their achievements, as were the winners of each classroom's poetry competitions. The ceremony closed with ambrosia served to the Olympians and the families and guests. Congratulations to all of the fourth graders, their teachers, the Arts Department, and the Athletics and Physical Education Department on a terrific Grade IV Olympics!
